The present review is aimed to compare two soundbars - Samsung HW-J355 vs Sony HT-Z9F that are meant to satisfy the needs of cinema and music lovers. Based on our rating, HW-J355 has a total rating of 5.8 out of 10 versus 6.8 for HT-Z9F. The competitors' control buttons are different: power, volume down, volume up, input and power, input, Bluetooth, music service, volume down, volume up, respectively.
Both soundbars have active amplification type. A significant difference between the units in the number of channels, the Samsung HW-J355 has 2.1 versus 3.1 for the Sony HT-Z9F. The output power is different and equal to 60 W for the HW-J355 versus 400 (overall) W for the HT-Z9F. Competitors do not have a built-in subwoofer. The HW-J355 has a wired and wireless connection to separate subwoofer, and the HT-Z9F - wireless. Both models received our 7 rating of 10 for their audio features and specs. Only the HW-J355 supports Google Play Music. Spotify is available on each of the soundbars.
These models have the ability to connect to the Internet via WI-FI. Rivals from our review have Bluetooth support. Only the HT-Z9F supports HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC). Both soundbars have a USB connector. For connectivity, the HW-J355 received a rating of 6/10 versus 8/10, respectively. App control is available for the HW-J355. None of the models under consideration have a built-in microphone. Multi-room is only available for the Sony HT-Z9F.
Only the HT-Z9F has a Dolby Atmos multichannel audio format support. A surround technology DTS:X is supported only by the HT-Z9F. Compared devices do not have DTS Virtual:X support. For multichannel surround Samsung HW-J355 got a rating of 2, and Sony HT-Z9F 7 out of 10.
